Making sure your instructor is 100% legit!
With Jiu Jitsu and MMA becoming more and more popular every day and new schools popping up on every corner to offer instruction in MMA and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, how do you make the best possible choice?
Besides always observing or participating in a free trial class like the ones offered here at Gracie Sports USA in Norwalk, Connecticut; we suggest talking to the other students and really getting to know the studio before you sign up.
Another important step is to do a little research on the instructor(s) and the programs they offer. And, to be sure the Professor is certified by the IBJJF (International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation). According to federation rules, only black belt instructors with 2 stripes or more are certified under the IBJJF to award rank. So, before you decide to join a school, be sure to ask about the certification and lineage of the instructor(s).
Belts and promotions are nice, however ensuring you’re learning the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in a safe and technically sound environment is really what’s important! You wouldn’t buy a car without doing some research, so why should picking a martial arts academy be any different? After all, your safety and the environment in which you learn are VERY important.
Get the peace-of- mind that comes with knowing you are learning and receiving rank from someone who is qualified and has paid their dues through hard work and years of training and teaching.
Check out our Master Marcio Stambowsky and the complete list of other certified black belts on the IBJJF page today at http://www.ibjjf.org/blackbelts_ibjjf_rank.htm
We’ll see you on the mat!
